Austin

Weather in early March: Google declares, “In most years, Austin averages a daily maximum temperature for March that’s between 69 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit (21 to 24 degrees Celsius). The minimum temperature usually falls between 48 and 55 °F (9 to 13 °C).”

Places to eat:

Texas Chili Parlor Bar: 4-minute walk from Hampton Inn.  Under $10.  Famous Austin chili, glorified in song by Guy Clark’s “Dublin Blues.”  Obviously, the chili is where it’s at (and only $7 for a large bowl), but the enchiladas and Killer Nachos are delicious as well.   Drink suggestion: Mad Dog Margarita.

Spiderhouse: Popular bar with surrounding food trucks (vegan-friendly) about an 18-minute walk from Waggener Hall, where the workshop will be held.

Kerbey Lane Cafe: A popular Austin diner within walking distance of campus that offers a range of options, including their famous queso (order the white, Kerbey queso) and a wide selection of breakfast food. $10-$20.

Hopfield’s: Bills itself as a “gastropub.” 24-minute walk from Waggener Hall. Good beer selection and decent ratatouille. Around $20.

Posse East: nearby pub, 14-minute walk from Waggener. Cheap burgers, fries, beer. Nice place to sit outside.

Madam Mam’s: recommended Thai restaurant, 13-minute walk from Waggener.

Keso’s Tacos: good tacos (all have queso on them). 13-minute walk from Waggener but also on the way from the Hampton Inn.

CAVA: inexpensive, decent, close (9-minute walk from Waggener). For those who want a healthy lunch.
